Asphalt, concrete or interlock?
All three work well in Ontario when they're built on a proper base. Here's how they compare.
| Asphalt | Concrete | Interlock | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical lifespan | 15–20 years with sealing and crack repair | 25–30 years | 25+ years; pavers can be lifted and relaid |
| Ready to use | Cars in 2–3 days | Walk in 1–2 days, drive in about 7 | Right away |
| Winter and salt | Flexes with frost, handles salt well | Needs air-entrained mix; avoid de-icers in year one | Joints let it move with frost |
| Repairs | Patch or resurface | Cut out and replace panels | Lift, re-base and reset the area |
| Look | Clean, uniform black | Broom, exposed or stamped finishes | Many colours, shapes and patterns |
| Upfront cost | Lowest | Middle | Highest |
How soon can I park on a new asphalt driveway?
Usually after two to three days. In hot weather give it longer, and avoid turning your wheels while the car is stopped for the first few weeks.
When can I use new concrete?
Foot traffic after a day or two, cars after about a week. Skip salt and de-icers for the first winter while the surface finishes curing.
Why does the base matter so much?
Ruts, sinking and heaving almost always come from a thin or poorly compacted base. We dig out soft material and compact granular stone in lifts before any surface goes down.
Do you offer seasonal snow contracts?
Yes, for homes, commercial properties and municipal sites. Contracts are set up in the fall, so September and October are the time to book.
Do you bid on municipal tenders?
Yes. See our municipal page for the work we do and the documents we provide with submissions.
